My Opinion on The Tamron 180mm Lens

I recently got this Tamron 180mm as a gift from my friend. He knows that I love shooting macro pictures and I am always in need for a longer length. This is why he gave this pleasant surprise on my birthday. Here, I will be writing some of my thoughts regarding this lens. First of all, the image quality on this lens is simply superb. The build quality of this lens is stellar as well. This is a big lens and you will notice that people will be impressed when they see you shooting around with this lens. This lens has a true 1:1 macro capability which allows you to get 1:1 real subject size on the sensor. The f/3.5 aperture is pretty good and all images taken at this aperture are sharp. This lens seems sharper when you stop down to f/4 or more. The only downside on this lens is that it needs a focus limiting switch to make the autofocus mechanism faster.

As a previous owner of the great Tamron 90mm lens, I think the upgrade to this lens was well worth it. I love this lens simply because this lens has a great, perhaps stellar, image quality. I use it wide open all the time when I shoot in the macro range. I also use this lens to focus closer to infinity with some good results. This lens is good when combined with a 1.4 teleconverter that you can buy separately. Since I love the longer range of this lens, I have it on my camera most of the time. When you are using the teleconverter, this lens will essentially be a 400mm when used on a cropped sensor DSLR camera. In addition, you will get the 1.4x magnification factor in macro photography. The 400mm will be enough for shooting wildlife shots. You will lose one stop of aperture when you use the teleconverter with this lens but I still think the compromise is worth it.
